Aims:
- Primary: Share learning and experience of working in ‘global health’ settings including public health, humanitarian and voluntary work
- Secondary:
- Consider wider implications of working in these settings, including ethics and sustainability
- Developing a ‘good practice code’ for volunteer work, and a repository of existing NGOs as well as other institutions and initiatives offering experience in this area
- Link this together with Young Doctor Movements on the ground in these areas as well – we may be able in time to share opportunities for young doctors who are interested to work in these fields
- Teach and develop skills around working in resource limited settings, including as well as expedition/extreme medicine.
- Raise awareness and collaborate about research possibilities in global health settings
Objectives:
- Establish group, set up social media/contacts
- Expand on the themes of our workshop presented in Vienna, continuing at Dublin, around one of the themes listed above
- Consider linking with other YDMs to co-produce a Global SIG
